Effective altruism

This blog starts with “If you’re lucky enough to live without want, it’s a natural impulse to want to try and help others.” It is a good read and includes the related presentation.

“**Too often, we try to alleviate the suffering of those immediately in front of us by giving in a “Knee-Jerk” fashion.
**Instead, we should step back to reflect on the bigger picture and the root of a particular issue, which may not be immediately apparent. This way, we can make thoughtful decisions about how to maximize the impact of our effort.
**By combining heart and mind, the same instinct of kindness can go further, positively impacting more people and bringing us closer to real solutions.”
